Blog Post # 2 - Digitizing Assignments
Digitizing assignments could definitely improve my teaching output, as well as student satisfaction. We don't have a 1:1 learning environment in our classrooms; only 2 of 8 English language classrooms are equipped with an embedded computer and projector. However, all of my students have smartphones. Students currently use smartphones for ESL dictionary purposes.I often use short-length videos from Youtube for enhancing discussion topics and vocabulary work. Yesterday's section on slideshows inspired me to create my own Power Point for my class orientations, rather than using the traditional welcome letter I normally hand out. I'm also considering using slideshow presentations to underscore concepts for class discussions and smartphones for filming short videos for student assignments. I think digital media, particularly smartphones (because all my students have them), are great ways to enhance overall understanding in ESL classroom contexts. Hopefully, I'll have more digital tricks up my sleeve after completing this course!

Great blog post, Denae. I understand your difficulty with not having equipment but, it seems that the ideas we have gotten in class so far will definitely give you new inspiration for using technology in you teaching. I am also more motivated to try some of the new ideas. We'll get there. Fighting!!! ;-)

DeleteYes, I would definitely go with using things compatable with their cell phones, such as having them use them as video cameras to make skits. I also know the pain of not having an embedded computer in the classroom.^^
