Blog Post # 1 - Professional Teaching Goal & Educ932 Learning Goal

The thing I want to improve on the most as an educator is to become proficient in using all the digital resources available to me. My institution lags behind most educational institutions in Korea, especially in terms of digital resources, digital learning and teaching platforms, and implementation. I teach at a small, private health sciences university where the lion's share of resources are allocated to other departments. The English foreign-language teachers have access to just two embedded computers and projectors for eight teaching classrooms. However, I now have my own Mac laptop and smartphone, but currently feel I don't know enough about all their features to maximize the devices fully. 

EDUC 932 will help me become more aware of digital technology in the classroom, especially in ways I can implement certain digital elements into my teaching in an ESL context. I'm especially interested in using video for teaching and learning purposes. Nowadays, almost all of my students use smartphones, so I can maximize smartphone usage in certain contexts such as filming and making videos, for sharing, learning and assessment purposes. Overall, I'm looking forward to understanding and becoming more confident in my use of digital technology in the classroom, as well as understanding new trends!
